LWS Geostorm CDAW and Conference
5-9 March 2007 - Florida Tech - Melbourne, FL
Second Announcement and Call for Papers
---------------------------------------------------------------------------

The first two days will be devoted to the workshop (Monday, Tuesday) and the last 3 days will be devoted to the conference (Wednesday - Friday). The conference will consist of invited and contributed (oral, poster) presentations, with a limit of 100 participants. The presentations will be on the results obtained during and after the 2005 CDAW. The presentations at this meeting will form the basis for papers to be considered for publication in special sections in GRL and JGR soon after the meeting. Contributions are hereby solicited on any topic related to geomagnetic storms of cycle 23. Papers on storms from other cycles are also invited, provided they compare them with the cycle 23 storms.

Mary Hudson, Tim Fuller-Rowell, Dimitris Vassiliadis, and Janet Luhmann have agreed to give tutorial talks.
David Sibeck and Geoff Reeves have agreed to give an Overview talk on the RBSP mission and its science goals.
Ramona Kessell and Lika Guhathakurta will provide updates on LWS activities.

The list of 88 major geomagnetic storms (Dst < -100 nT) from 1996 to 2005 with links to all kinds of observations from the Sun to Earth can be found in the following location:
http://cdaw.gsfc.nasa.gov/geomag_cdaw/Data_master_table.html

The data sets will be used to address several key questions that can be broadly classified as Heliosphere and Sun-Earth Connectedness, Global Magnetosphere-Ionosphere Response, and Inner Magnetosphere and Ionosphere Response. The questions are listed in http://cism.fit.edu/LWS-CDAW_2007_Main.html#questions.

The following working group leaders have agreed to help organize the scientific sessions:
WG1: Drivers of geomagnetic storms (CME and solar surface source region, CME/ICME relation): David Webb, Ian Richardson
WG2: Mechanisms of geomagnetic storms and radiation belt response: Mary K. Hudson, Mike Liemohn
WG3: Ionospheric Storms: Geoff Crowley, Joe Huba
WG4: Prediction of Geomagnetic storms: Ramon Lopez, Robert L. McPherron

The registration and abstract submission deadlines are January 31, 2007, and should be made at the following site: http://cism.fit.edu/LWS-CDAW_2007_Registration.html

Details on the meeting, registration, travel, and lodging can be found on http://cism.fit.edu/LWS-CDAW_2007_Main.html.
